TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian lawmakers gave a vote of confidence to Minister of Cooperative, Labor and Welfare Ali Rabiee by a very narrow margin on Tuesday.
The labor minister was impeached on Tuesday for what a group of parliamentarians called his weak performance in handling insurance corporates and settle workers' problems.
Rabiee took the podium in an open session of the parliament to respond to the questions of lawmakers.
At the conclusion of the session, attended by 253 MPs, 126 lawmakers voted against the plan to dismiss the minister, while 124 were in favor of his dismissal.
The votes, including two abstentions and one invalid vote, kept the minister in his post by a narrow margin.
Rabiee has come under strong criticism from opponents for controversial job assignments in organizations under his control, lingering problems and job insecurity in the working class, improper insurance conditions, and poor handling of insurance issues for Sanchi -an Iranian oil tanker that sank in the South China Sea in January after burning for a week.
Rabiee has served as the labor minister in both administrations of President Hassan Rouhani.
