Air France-KLM battles Italian unions

Brunei News.Net
Saturday 29th March, 2008

Air France-KLM has agreed to take on an extra 12 percent of Alitalia's ground service workers to appease Italian unions.

The unions have begun to fight the Air France-KLM bid, joining top Italian politicians and Milan's airport operator, which says it will scrap the deal without union support.

It is believed Air France-KLM has agreed to hire about 900 more employees from Alitalia's loss making ground services unit.

The company will now retain 4,191 workers instead of the 3,300 which was earlier mooted.

Air France-KLM has confirmed plans to cut about 1,600 jobs at Alitalia's airborne operations and shut its cargo unit in 2010, which has also drawn a sharp rebuke from the carrier's main pilots' union.

Make sure to keep the Alitalia name and remember that as many jobs as possible should be protected.
