PHNOM PENH, May 29 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,453 athletes from 11 countries will participate in the 12th ASEAN Para Games, to be held in Phnom Penh from June 3 to 9, according to the organizing committee.
Among the athletes, 304 are from Thailand, 275 from Indonesia, 252 from hosts Cambodia, 176 from the Philippines, 133 from Malaysia, 128 from Vietnam, 83 from Myanmar, 43 from Laos, 26 from Singapore, 20 from Brunei and 13 are from Timor-Leste, a report from the organizing committee said.
A total of 1,239 coaches and technical officials will also come along with their athletes, it added.
Yi Veasna, secretary general of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia, said the athletes will contest in athletics, badminton, boccia, Chess, 5-a-side football, 7-a-side football, blind basketball, judo, weightlifting, swimming, men's and women's table tennis, men's and women's sitting volleyball, men's and women's wheelchair basketball, and e-sports.
"We expect Cambodia to win 56 medals in the upcoming games, up from 28 medals we earned in the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Indonesia in 2022," Veasna said.
"It's expected that Cambodia will rank sixth out of the 11 participating countries on the medal tally."
