JAKARTA, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- A 6.3-magnitude earthquake jolted off Indonesia's eastern province of Maluku on Friday night, but did not trigger giant waves, the country's meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The earthquake occurred at 21:59 p.m. Jakarta time (1459 GMT) with its epicenter situated at 169 km northwest of Tanimbar Islands Regency and a depth of 177 km under the seabed, the agency said.

The agency previously recorded the quake at a magnitude of 6.6 but revised its intensity later.

The agency said that the tremors of the quake did not potentially trigger a tsunami.
