JAKARTA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia and Mongolia have agreed to strengthen their trade ties during a bilateral meeting attended by Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono and his Mongolian counterpart Battsetseg Batmunkh at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Central Jakarta.

According to Sugiono, trade growth between Indonesia and Mongolia increased by 74 percent last year.

During the meeting, the two sides emphasized the importance of facilitating closer relations between the two countries' chambers of commerce to explore untapped business potential.

"We also exchanged information and insights on the regional and global situation, and how we can navigate those situations," said Sugiono.

The meeting also prepared both countries for the celebration of 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year.

Sugiono noted that the diplomatic relations established for seven decades demonstrate the enduring friendship between the two countries since their early independence days.

As a concrete step to strengthen bilateral relations, Sugiono and Battsetseg signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultation, which aims to encourage regular dialogue and deepen understanding of the common interests of the two countries in dealing with regional and global issues.
