Malaysia's inflation up 1.4 pct in 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia recorded an annual inflation rate of 1.4 percent for 2025, down from 1.8 percent in 2024, official data showed Tuesday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that this was contributed by a slower increase of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (1.6 percent); health (1.2 percent), recreation, sport and culture (1.1 percent), transport (0.4 percent) and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (0.2 percent).

Meanwhile, the inflation of information and communication and clothing and footwear registered decreases at 4.3 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively, in 2025.

However, groups such as personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services, insurance and financial services, restaurant and accommodation services, education, as well as food and beverages all recorded higher inflation in 2025.
