Brunei records slight decline in inflation rate in 2025

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Brunei recorded a 0.3 percent decrease in its inflation rate in 2025 compared to a decrease of 0.4 percent in 2024, local media reported on Wednesday.

Brunei's Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy said the decline was driven by a 0.3 percent reduction in both the food and non-alcoholic beverages index and the non-food index, according to the local daily Borneo Bulletin.

The department said the decrease in food prices was mainly attributed to lower prices of meat, eggs and vegetables, while the non-food price decline was largely due to transport, recreation, culture, as well as miscellaneous goods and services.

However, this was partially offset by price increases in restaurants and hotels, education, clothing and footwear, the JPES noted.
