BEIJING, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday sent a congratulatory message to Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah on the 42nd anniversary of the country's independence.
Noting that China and Brunei have a profound traditional friendship, Xi said that last year, Hassanal paid a state visit to China, during which both sides agreed to build a China-Brunei community with a shared future, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations.
The Chinese president said he attaches great importance to China-Brunei ties and is willing to work with Hassanal to jointly carry forward the traditional friendship, deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote solid progress in the building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future, so as to bring more benefits to the people of the two countries, and make greater contributions to regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.
