Malaysia's Maybank earnings climb in Q3

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank), Malaysia's largest bank, reported higher earnings in the third quarter, underpinned by a steady bottom line.

The firm said in a bourse filing that its net profit climbed 3.27 percent year-on-year to 2.62 billion ringgit (632 million U.S. dollars) during the quarter.

As for the first nine months, the firm's net profit rose 3.73 percent year-on-year to 7.84 billion ringgit.

"As we conclude the final phases of M25+ (Growth Strategy), our focus remains on cementing the structural improvements we have put in place, particularly in productivity, capital efficiency and customer experience," the firm's President and group Chief Executive Officer Khairussaleh Ramli said.
